RATIONALE
The achievements in the areas of science and technology in the last century (especially in the last 50 years) have been remarkable. They have revolutionized every aspect of human society. Information Technology (IT) is just one area where this transformation is taking place. This technology is now a crucial part of the educational process - through information sharing, throughout the world. It is perhaps the best channel available through which objectives like democralization of education, basic education for all and lifelong learning could be achieved. It is quickly becoming the cheapest and fastest way to disseminate and exchange ideas and information worldwide. With these in mind, UNESCO's Regional Unit for Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific (RUSHSAP) is collaborating with Suankularbwittayalai Nonthaburi School (SKN) and the National Electronic and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) has initiated this unique and ambitious project - the Asia Pacific Social Sciences School Network (APSSSNET). The basic aim of the project is to gather and generate information from a broad variety of sources and to share and exchange ideas, through the internet. |

ACTIVITIES
As the project requires advanced and expensive technology together with some existing IT knowledge, the project has been divided into many phases and activities. They are: Specific topics:
To link all school members,( both students and teachers ) of the Asia-Pacific region. E-mail employing Mailing List system can serve as a functional tool to communicate and exchange perspectives and further activities.
The Homepage project aims to encourage participation by students in the creation of their own school homepage with the following items:
Prior to the project implementation, a survey on the schedule of the academic year must be conducted in order to establish theapropriate times for students and teachers to chat via Internet. This project will set up the chatting homepage which only school members can access. This activity can be organized by making prior arrangements with the schools involved and preparing information on the proposed issues such as school disciplines and student life. When the hardware is available with appropriate software programmes, the school members can inquire about the chatting system to be used. This activity can be undertaken simultaneously with chatting or separately. Asia-Pacific Social Sciences School Network (APSSSNET) Training Workshop at the National and Regional level. |
